Frequently Asked Questions What experience do I need? Our Introductory Courses are designed for people with little or no experience of landscape photography. Our longer tours are open to all levels of experience, as we only take a maximum group of five in Scotland and one-to-one or one-to-two in Portugal which means that there is ample opportunity for individual attention. What kind of equipment should I bring? Most photographers bring single lens reflex cameras, but you can use anything from a compact to a field camera and it can be fdigital or film. A tripod is essential, but don't worry if you don't have one - we can usually provide a spare (but not abroad!). Talking of spares, please ensure that you bring spare batteries for your camera as many of our locations are quite remote and camera shops are few and far between. We normally carry at least one extra camera in case of emergency! How much film will I use? This really depends on the individual, but a general rule of thumb is to allow two or three 36 exposure films per day; it's better to have too much than too little. What kind of clothing is best? Comfortable, casual outdoor clothing is fine. It can be decidedly cool in Scotland and even Portuguese nights can be chilly, so layers are a good idea; a t-shirt, shirt and fleece or woolly jumper will keep you cosy. You'll almost certainly need a waterproof jacket and waterproof walking shoes or boots. Bring a hat too - it'll keep off the rain and protect you from the sun. We would prefer you to bring soft luggage rather than a hard suitcase if possible, as it makes packing the vehicles much easier. Finally, none of our hotels has a strict dress code, so you can leave the tuxedo or the cocktail dress at home! Where and when do the tours begin? We'll provide you with full travel details, times and directions for each course or tour at the time of booking. I don't want to drive to Scotland. Can you arrange airport or railway station collection? On the day before a course or tour we can normally organise pick-ups from Glasgow Airport (£40 return) or Stirling railway station (£15 return), and arrange accommodation for you. We also offer free transport between Stirling and all Scottish tour destinations on the first and last day of each tour if required. Further details at time of booking. How much walking is involved? We try to take you as close to each photographic location as possible, but inevitably some walking is required, although distances are short and never strenuous.
